Clarifying the Mysteries of Life, and Opening Up a New Age of Medical Treatment

Aiming at the development of artificial internal organs and micromachines for medical treatment, we are researching into the long-term culture and functional control of cells.

High Performance Ceramics for Bio-functional Control

Ceramics are attractive as a biomaterial because of their biocompatibility. Bio-functional ceramics such as a hard-tissue replacement, culture carriers of animal cells, and immobilization carriers of enzymes have been studied.

Novel Cell Manipulating Techniques for Industrial Utilization of Mammalian Cells

The liver is a unique organ that has strong proliferative activities and numerous differentiated functions as well. To utilize hepatic functions for industrial processes, novel cell manipulating techniques are being developed including long-term maintenance by three-dimensional culture and control of programmed cell death (apoptosis) of hepatocytes.
