 Overview

The prime objective of the researches in our Department is to develop technologies for creating novel intelligent/multifunctional materials and to elucidate the mechanisms of materials' functions.
The researches deal with two dimensional solids such as thin films, surface layers and surfaces/interfaces and focus on the development of new mesoscopic-scale materials consisting of atomic clusters and/or ultrafine particles.
Research projects include (1) ion beam technology for surface modifications and surface analysis; (2) cluster engineering for nano-sized materials; (3) multifunctional materials for solar energy applications; (4) solar photonics for preserving clean environment, etc.
Research works are directed to make significant contributions to solving energy and environmental problems and also to advancing technologies for electronics, photonics and micromechatronics, in response to social and industrial needs in the 21st century.
